The disassembly of historic glass paintings is a very delicate matter. Three historic master crafts are incorporated at this stage; the arts of stonemasonry, blacksmithry and glass painting. In the disassembly, all three of these features require specific treatment. None of the historic objects must be damaged in any way. All the components must be weighted the same. Each disassembly requires consideration of the individual assembly and the respective concept for the disassembly must be established in each case. The restorer on-site must adapt to the individual requirements of the building and modify his/her disassembly accordingly.

Our priority is the glass that needs to be secured individually prior to and during the disassembly process. The disassembly itself should be affected with as little vibration as possible using appropriate scratching devices and/or small oscillating or rotating apparatus.

After the disassembly, the various sections must be stabilised promptly, because they are often unstable due to the missing lateral connections. It is essential that the restorer, who looks after the complete project, carries out the securing and stabilisation process; he/she also initiates the individual processes of unloading, unpacking and storage of the pieces in the workshop.
