The adopted processes of securing the paint coat are varied. The paint coat bonding agents are inorganic and always extremely dependant on the ageing of the material. If applied incorrectly they can have a tarnishing effect and in the long term may actually destroy the original substance.

The choice of the appropriate bonding agent depends partly on the detected damage. In most cases, with the use of a paint brush, lifted particles of paint coat may be reattached to the glass surface. In particular cases it may be necessary to use a heated spatula to make the lifted paint more flexible, in order to reattach it to the glass without damage.

The durability and reversibility of the bonding agents are important parameters. In most cases it is impossible to provide both features, it is therefore of essential importance to decide at which point securing has to be done and at which point protective glass provides long term security. For the duration of the treatment and for transportation, temporary securing measures using superficial bonding agents, such as ‘Cyclododekan’ may be an alternative solution.
