When the historic panels have been removed from their original framework, warp resistant frames comprising brass U-sections are fitted around the panels to secure them. They also stabilise the panels in their new superimposed position with protective glazing. The frames are cut and mitred to fit smoothly around the panels. Then the corners are soldered on both sides. To prevent sagging inside the frame, the panels and the frames are soldered several times on one side only, quasi clamping them into the frame. Tap wrenches are fastened almost invisibly in the historic manner to secure the centre. These are tied positively to the panel and the frame.

Sawing and bending of brass sections, brass frames with fitted tap wrenches in a time-honoured manner.

Bands of rolled lead fitted to the sides cover the gap to the jamb perfectly and avoid slots of light. The soldered bands are modified to the jamb and cut back in situ to fit smoothly, keeping the visible black band as small as possible.

Framing provides ideal protection against hazardous influences generated by the building and/or the various materials that come into contact with the window; this applies equally for windows with and without protective glazing. This method increases the life span of the window significantly.
