The initial examination is divided into two categories:

1.
Firstly, the examination at the building site prior to the disassembly. This is an important stage for recording the condition of the window condition and to prepare for the various risks that may arise. This facilitates an early preliminary concept of restoration including temporary safety devices to be incorporated into the disassembly.

2.
The microscopic examination for the restoring is conducted in the workshop straight after the photographic recording of the status and/or condition of the glass painting. The detected coatings and damage will be recorded in a catalogue of conditions; this will form the basis for compiling the legend and graphic mapping. Apart from the self assessment of the coatings, scientific examinations in coordination with all parties concerned are significant components for the analysis of damage.

Securing on site, examination with the use of the microscope, compilation of a restoration concept.

The initial examination and the restoration concept will then be introduced and discussed in workshop meetings to provide an agreed concept of processes.
